A Rich Local Heritage
Elen’s Castle was named for a remarkable woman whose story weaves through Welsh history and legend. Elen first appears in a tale from the ancient Mabinogion, The Dream of Maxen Wledig. The name of the village in fact means Elen’s sweet meadow. The daughter of Llywelyn the Great who was born in the castle just a short walk from our doorstep was named Elen.
Having mentioned a meadow, the hotel actually sits opposite a picturesque meadow where the Lledr River gently winds beneath the historic stone bridge, Pentre Bont. It’s a setting that feels straight out of a fairy tale —a land rich in tradition and natural beauty.
While we were not born here, we have been proud to call Snowdonia our home for over 23 years, with 18 of those years dedicated to welcoming guests to Elen’s Castle Hotel. We are passionate about sharing the area’s charm, hospitality, and stunning landscapes with visitors from near and far.

Sink into the New Year in comfort and joy
This year we are hosting a more informal Christmas and New Year. The bar and guest lounge are open to all with it's log-burning stove, fabulous decorations and a large selection of hot and cold drinks perfect for a festive break. From hot chocolate (with cream, marshmallows and even a tot of Baileys), to mulled wine, local beer and a small range of festive cocktails. On New Year's Eve we are offering a buffet for £25 per person from 7 pm.
Free Christmas Wreath Making Workshops 6th and 7th December 3 - 6 pm
Would love to see you! I'll be providing all the greenery, wire and wire cutters and will have a couple of hoops but you need to bring ribbons, bows, old tree decorations, baubles and anything you might be considering not using! Might want to bring your own secateurs. I know how to do it so full instruction/ help available.
We will have the bar open and be selling hot drinks and cakes.
