Elen’s Castle Hotel was named for a remarkable woman whose story weaves through Welsh history and legend. Elen first appears in a tale from the ancient Mabinogion, The Dream of Maxen Wledig.  The name of the village in fact means Elen’s sweet meadow.  The daughter of Llywelyn the Great who was born in the castle just a short walk from our doorstep was named Elen.

Having mentioned a meadow, the hotel actually sits opposite a picturesque meadow where the Lledr River gently winds beneath the historic stone bridge, Pentre Bont. It’s a setting that feels straight out of a fairy tale —a land rich in tradition and natural beauty.

While we were not born here, we have been proud to call Snowdonia our home for over 23 years, with 18 of those years dedicated to welcoming guests to Elen’s Castle Hotel. We are passionate about sharing the area’s charm, hospitality, and stunning landscapes with visitors from near and far.

Our heritage-inspired hotel offers the comforts of today, including carbon-free heating, EV chargers, and dog-friendly accommodations. Staying at Elen’s Castle Hotel is more than a visit—it’s a step into the rich tapestry of Welsh culture and countryside.
